On Friday March 29, 2019, the Associates of the Boston Public Library will host a commemorative event marking the 150th anniversary of the National Peace Jubilee:
"In 1869 Americans from across the country gathered in Copley Square to celebrate the end of the Civil War with a five-day patriotic musical extravaganza. At the time, it was the biggest musical event ever held in the US. To mark the 150th anniversary of the National Peace Jubilee, the Associates of the Boston Public Library is holding a free event featuring patriotic brass and choral performances by the New England Conservatory. Mirroring the original event, NEC musicians will be joined by local firemen hammering on anvils for the Anvil Chorus." Events will include poetry recitals by Boston poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola, a keynote address by Prof. Theodore Landsmark, and other activities.
